The 73rd Year
Day 72

The far right is itching for a fight.

Pandemic-weary Americans are itching for a fight.

African Americans and other oppressed minorities are itching for a fight.

President Donald Trump is begging for a fight!

The fight has begun. It will end in November with an old-fashioned right-wing coup d'etat. Win or lose the election Donald Trump will be our president in 2021.

Here is how it will happen.

Trump is behind former Vice President Joe Biden in the national polls and in several states that are key to his reelection. Any other candidate would take this information, soften his or her tone and try to broaden their base.

Not Donald Trump. He’s the fireman who runs at a blazing building  armed with only a jerry can and pours gas on the flames. When peaceful protests of the senseless killing of an African American man in Minneapolis turned ugly this week, the president did nothing to calm the nation. Instead he tweeted: “When the looting starts, the shooting starts.”

This is not an original line. Former Alabama Governor George Wallace, a leading segregationist in the 1960s, embraced the term that was first coined by a deeply racist police chief during rioting in Miami.

For anyone who does not understand the warning, it means: “Give me any chance and I’ll blow your ass away.”

The New York Times today reported that there have been protests in more than 30 cities this week. A police precinct station in Minneapolis was torched. There have been fires and vandalism and people arrested all across America.

And now it is Saturday all across America, a good day for a protest and confrontation with the local cops.

Burn America, burn!

This is exactly what President Trump wants.

This is exactly what the far right wants.

Blood in the streets. Rioting. Mass arrests. Let America smolder and burn for a while.

Then President Trump will order the military to restore order. Not the police. Not the swat teams. Not the national guard. The regular army, the battle-hardened guys on the front lines of our foreign wars.

The armed forces have already been put on alert. They await orders from our president.

Their charge will be simple. Clear the streets, put out the fires, restore order. Establish President Trump as the man who saved the nation. Establish him as the only president who can “make America great again.”

Trump will play this card throughout the rest of the campaign. He will attack Joe Biden as a weak pretender to a throne that is rightfully his, only his.

This raises the question. Where the hell is Joe Biden? It is time to get out of the basement Joe. America needs to see you. Out on the streets, with the people. Joe is supposed to be a man of the people. He needs to appear in public daily as a calm, peaceful alternative to our warlord president.

November is still months away. Biden may have enough juice to still win the election. But Trump will do everything he can to keep voters, Biden voters, away from the polls. This is why Republicans oppose ballot by mail and other mechanisms that make it easier to vote.

If Biden wins the popular and electoral vote Trump will immediately mount a legal challenge, probably several. He’ll accuse Democrats of widespread fraud and say they stole the election.

America will be reeling from a new wave or unending wave of the Covid-19 virus. Unpopular stay-at-home orders may be  reestablished. By then millions will have lost their jobs permanently. There will not be any stimulus money to bail them out.

This will produce renewed unrest. The far right will clash with protesters in the streets. The military will again be dispersed.

With the military already deployed, Trump will declare the election invalid and order a new one sometime in the distant future. He will find some constitutional argument that will tie the issue up in his Supreme Court.

President for life Donald Trump.

America, a tinpot dictatorship.

Am I a conspiracy theorist gone over the deep edge?

I hope so.

Be safe!

  1. While it is certainly a plausible scenario, I am hoping it underestimates a few things, namely: a young seething left that will energize the get out to vote with more ferocity; a large & reasonable group of moderates that are appalled at what this man is doing to this country; and a growing group within the gop that realize they have created a monster and it needs to be stopped so they will vote him out- either loudly or discreetly in the voting booth. I hold out hope that reason will eventually prevail. If it doesn't, I can't imagine what this country would look like after another 4 years with "The Great Mistake".
